Washington, Kiev to Finalize Ukraine Reconstruction Deal

(MENAFN) Washington and Kiev are preparing to endorse an $800 billion accord to rebuild Ukraine, a media outlet has reported.

The agreement is expected to be signed during the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos later this month, according to Western sources cited by the newspaper.

The arrangement is said to be modeled on the rare earth minerals deal secured last year between Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky and US President Donald Trump. The pact provides Washington with preferential access to these resources, though the security assurances long requested by Kiev are not part of the package.

At the time, Trump promoted the deal as a means of recouping what he described as the enormous financial assistance previously granted to Kiev by the former administration. Earlier this week, he reiterated that securing rare earth metals was a prerequisite for the White House to continue pursuing a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

“I said that if we want to move forward, we need rare earth metals,” Trump told a news agency on Thursday. “We want our money back.”

Officials informed the media outlet that the “prosperity” initiative aims to generate roughly $800 billion over a decade through a mix of loans, grants, and private-sector investment. The newspaper added that US envoy Steve Witkoff characterized the deal as a vital element of the broader ceasefire framework he has been negotiating in recent months.

He reportedly stated that BlackRock, the world’s largest investment firm, would take part in the program.

Trump has consistently criticized unconditional aid to Kiev, labeling Zelensky “the greatest salesman on earth.” Last year, he accused his predecessor Joe Biden of having “fleeced” America by allocating $350 billion in military assistance to Ukraine.
